Meet Michelle Sefton- “Celtic Stud”
Hi, I’m Michelle Sefton, I have been involved in horses for 30 years now. I went through pony club to B certificate level. I have competed to Open level Eventing, Show Jumped to 1.25m, Dressage to Level 3 have schooled to Level 4. When younger I competed in many District/Club/Branch Show Jumping, Dressage, Eventing and Games teams including, Inca Cup and Zone games. Where I went on to Mounted Games(My family and myself are Founding Member’s of New Zealand Mounted Games Association). My brother and I were also lucky to attend the NZPCA Golden Games, celebrating 60 years of pony club, which was held at Helensville Show Grounds.
In 2002 I was in a New Zealand Development Squad to travel Internationally to the United States and Canada, for Mounted Games. I also had the opportunity with my team mates to compete in quite a few other discipline’s while there, Dressage, Showing and Eventing. The biggest event was the Toronto Show competing in Mounted Games. It was an amazing opportunity and experience I will never forget, I made life long friends with so many over their that we are still in contact today. I then went on to win the 2003 HOY NZMGA Title.
I have vast experience in a range of disciplines and levels with training and coaching. I am also a coach for NZPCA and have been for several local clubs for 22years. Also a coach for the Adult Ride held at Kaukapakapa Pony Club.
I own and manage Celtic Stud NZ. I breed Pintos for performance and pleasure with top bloodlines that go back to Ace Of Diamonds and Galaxy Pourewa. My staillion is:
Triple Star Celtic Warrior aka Chippie, he is a black and white Homozygous Tobiano. This season is his first season standing.
Sire: Triple Star The Last Diamond, who is by Ace Of Diamonds
Dam: Triple Star Dusk Til Dawn
Triple Star Equestrian – Sue Burton, has been an amazing help to me, professionally and as a friend, in setting up my breeding program to take over with their lines that are the only mix from 2 prestigious New Zealand Pony Stallions, going back to Ace Of Diamonds and Galaxy Pourewa, to produce top performance ponies and horses in any discipline, however they are known well in the Showing, Show Jumping and Show Hunter circuit.
I also train horses, from foals right through to any age and any English discipline. Problem solve, ground work, float training and riding. I start and back horses and have have been doing this for 10 years now. I use natural horsemanship, based on positive pressure release system using methods from Andrew McLean, Clinton Anderson, and Steve Brady. Each horse is different and has different ways of learning. When I train horses I want them to work with me because they want to not because they have to.
I run a range of clinics in person and online, as well as online ridden and groundwork lessons. The clinics i run are:
Introduction to Equine Nutrition
Equine First Aid
Show and Event prep and turn out
What to look for when buying a horse
I also offer Nutrition Consultations
I also do float training, clipping and Bowen therapy for horses, dogs and people, I am a qualified SmartBowen Practitioner.
I give lessons on groundwork and ridden lessons. I cater for a wide range of levels and disciplines as well as nervous riders, green horses, young riders, old riders, experienced riders etc. I am happy to help with any level of rider and horse, with anything either may need and what they want to achieve.
I am a fully qualified Veterinary Nurse and have practiced for 15 years in Equine Clinics, Small Animal and Large Animal Clinics. I also offer services for rehabilitation and wound care and management.
I also take on Massey Vet students in year one and two for practical experience with the stud and farm.
You could say I do a bit of everything. My aim is to help wherever I can however I can. I love watching riders and horse grow into themselves as I coach/train them, as well as watching horse and rider forming an amazing bond. I enjoy helping those new to the horse scene to help them and their horses in anyway I can for the best positive outcomes for all.
Please feel free to check out my Facebook Page Celtic Stud NZ. All my services are on there and a pinned post at the top of the page goes through the services I offer online.
