Poznan Round Up- Richard Gardner
Richard Gardner and his team are currently travelling back to Germany as this article is being written, by all accounts a successful weekend away in Poland, with some tired horses in the truck, and plenty of valuable learnings under the belt.
“Cookies and Cream” ( Richards beautiful 6 year old ) jumped super all weekend, finishing with 4 faults in the big age group final at 7.30 am, this was a tough track for Cookie, she is ” Green as Grass” but was brave and tried hard, and will have gained valuable experience at this show.
“Cromwell” jumping in the medium FEI Ranking classes ( 1.45m ) again acquitted himself well having an unlucky 4 faults in the final, and looked to be really getting off the turf well, he looks to me to be a horse for the future, Cromwell would have been 11th or 12th if not for that unlucky rail.
Bit of a shame for the teams start performer ” Calisto” in the GP, having a spook at some cameras and kids close to a jump, and having the back rail of the big triple bar, which is very unlike him, Richard feels that perhaps Calisto tired in the GP, with jumps set at 1.60m, horses need to be fresh and firing on all cylinders, with the huge amount of travel this horse has endured of late, perhaps he was just off his peak performance, so it’s back to Germany, rest up, refresh, refocus, and come out all guns blazing at the next show.
